We talked about tightening our belts – hey, we are used to that! It’s about making do or doing without and we here on the urban homestead can always improve our efficiency. Sometimes we overlook the little steps and it’s good to take stock and go back to basics.

One suggestion was to save money by not making homemade granola since there’s quite a few non homegrown ingredients involved. With prices of food going up and our wanting not to be so dependent on too many store ingredients it’s time to simplify. So with the cooler weather, good old (organic) oatmeal topped with homegrown preserves will be the mainstay breakfast here on the urban homestead. The times they are a’changing and we have to too!
